In harmony with nature

Beer is a really great drink that quenches thirst and nourishes the soul and body at the same time. At least 90% of every pint that has ever touched your lips is water. In green Slovenia, where forests cover almost two thirds of our magical mountains, hills, valleys and plains, extremely clean, rich water springs from the depths. On the Slovenian plains, we also grow top-quality hops, which are known all over the world and are among the highest quality raw materials for preparing the world’s best beers. Thus, beers brewed in Slovenia are born with an exceptional quality of ingredients and a rich brewing tradition.

The world’s best beers are also brewed with Slovenian hops

Slovenia is considered one of the world’s most important producers of hops, which it also exports in large part. Among brewers, Slovenian hops are considered one of the most sought after and valued. Beers brewed with it rank among top brewing accomplishments. Today, one twelfth of all beer produced in the world is brewed with Slovenian hops.

A long tradition

Beer has taken deep roots in Slovenia

Slovenian beer is of high quality and has an exceptional tradition. Already four thousand years ago, beer-like beverages were drunk in Slovenia, and with the arrival of the Slavs, the enjoyment of beer flourished even more. But up to the 18th century, Slovenians brewed beer mainly for themselves, rather than for sale. Beer trade was even banned for many centuries, as it was brewed from grains that, according to the authorities, were vital for baking bread. When the famous historian Valvasor wrote about them in 1756, we had four major breweries in Slovenia and many small, domestic ones. Today, Slovenian beer with centuries-old tradition is brewed in numerous breweries of various sizes.

Numerous Slovenian brewers

Centuries have passed since the time when we brewed beer at home, but the desire to create ever new top quality beers still hasn’t left us. Among the 100 or so brewers currently operating in Slovenia, some have a century-old tradition, while others have surrendered to the charms of brewing only recently. But they all draw from the traditions of the local environment, because beer has been part of our culture for thousands of years.
