Postojna Cave

Postojna Cave is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia and also one of the most famous karst caves in the world. Its spans along more than 24 kilometres, of which approximately 5.3 kilometres are open to visitors.

Postojna Cave was discovered in the Middle Ages, but it was only opened to the public in 1819. Today, it is visited annually by tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world. A special feature of Postojna Cave is a tour by train that takes you through its central part, where you can see magnificent halls such as the Concert Hall and many stalactites, the most beautiful of which is the unforgettable five-meter-high white stalagmite called Brilliant. The cave is also home to unique cave fauna, the most famous of which is the proteus that can live up to 100 years.

Lipica

A visit to Lipica is an obligatory experience for all lovers of horses and nature. Lipica is the original stable where they have been breeding world-famous Lipizzaner horses since 1580. Lipica is considered one of the most important equestrian centres in Europe. They are carrying out the breeding and training of the horses and organize many equestrian events such as dressage shows, competitions and equestrian courses.

Lipica is also a popular tourist spot that offers a tour of the stud farm, where you can learn about the history and tradition of Lipizzaner breeding, see the Riding School show performed by masters from the Classical Riding School, and walk through the beautiful nature where the Lipizzaner roam free. Lipica is also set in unique nature, where you can wander alone or with the family, play golf or other sports, or ride a bike through one of the most beautiful parts of the Slovenian Karst.

Cobbled streets by the sea

Piran

Piran, the most beautiful town on the Slovenian coast, is famous for its Venetian architecture, cobbled streets, narrow squares and stone houses. It is best known for its old city centre surrounded by city walls. A walk along the narrow, cobbled streets takes you past many churches, markets and restaurants where you can taste the local seafood delicacies. Among the main attractions in the city are the church of St. George with a free-standing bell tower, the church of St. Francis of Assisi and Tartini Square, which is considered the heart of Piran and is named after Piran’s most famous son, the composer Giuseppe Tartini. In addition, Piran is also an excellent starting point for exploring the Slovenian coast, where there are also other wonderful places nearby, such as Koper, Izola, Portorož and Strunjan.
