A charming European capital

Ljubljana

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and one of the most beautiful European cities. It spreads along the river Ljubljanica, crossed by many bridges, the most famous of which is Tromostovje. The city has a rich history and cultural heritage that visitors can discover at every turn. The old part of the city is known for its lively cultural and artistic scene and attractions such as the Ljubljana Castle, St. Nicholas’ Cathedral, the Town Hall and the National Gallery. A wonderful view of the city can be seen from the top of the Ljubljana Castle, rising above the city. The famously lush Tivoli Park is also popular among the locals and tourists alike.

Ljubljana is popular with tourists all year round. They like to stroll along the beautiful Ljubljanica, see Prešeren square at the heart of the city, or go on a hike to the surrounding hills. Ljubljana is also an excellent starting point for exploring Slovenia, as many interesting places are within easy reach, such as Bled, Postojna Cave and Piran.

A medieval gem

Kamnik

Kamnik is a charming medieval town in central Slovenia, just below the Alps and only 20 km north of Ljubljana. It is considered one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Slovenia. At that time, it was a flourishing trading town where the Counts von Diessen from Bavaria had their seat. A wonderful architectural heritage reminds us of the time when Kamnik was the capital of Carniola. The special feature of the town is the extremely rich Franciscan library, where they keep around 10,000 books and notebooks printed before the end of the 18th century. Šutna is considered the most beautiful street in the city, decorated with typical signs advertising local craftsmen. Šutna has many attractions, including the birthplace of Rudolf Maister, the parish church of Mary Immaculate with a separate Gothic bell tower, the Sadnikar Museum and the birthplaces of famous locals. Kamnik is surrounded by rolling hills and mountains, which offer many opportunities for hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities.

Herder’s settlement

Velika planina

Velika Planina is a plateau at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, located in the Alps in central Slovenia. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia, known for its beautiful nature, tradition and unique architecture. The most typical dwellings on Velika Planina are the herder’s huts, placed in long rows creating unforgettable views. They are available to rent, but it is also fun to visit them and taste the authentic herder’s cuisine. Velika Planina is also home to the Church of Sts Primus and Felician, which is one of the highest lying churches in Slovenia.

During the warmer months Velika Planina is very popular with hikers and visitors, but also with cows, who are brought there for the fresh green grass and pleasant temperatures. In winter, Velika Planina transforms into a snow fairytale and offers numerous opportunities for skiing, cross-country skiing and sledding.

Tourist attraction

Bled

Bled is an idyllic town in the heart of the Julian Alps and one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Slovenia. For centuries, it has been considered a cosmopolitan resort for the most demanding guests who want to enjoy its mild climate and charming nature.
Its biggest attraction is Lake Bled with its island. The island is crowned with the picturesque church and characteristic bell tower. Just above the lake, Bled Castle rises on a mighty rock, offering a stunning view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Its museum features the presentations of life in the castle and in Bled throughout the centuries.
Bled is interesting both because of its views and because it is an excellent starting point for various activities, such as hiking, cycling, rowing, and many other sports activities. Visitors with a sweet tooth are particularly well catered for in numerous restaurants, cafes and pastry shops, where they will be happy to serve the local specialty: Bled cremeschnitte.
